Using the Shira fogging technology by H. Staple, V. Salisbury* and D. M. Reynolds** (Faculty of Applied Sciences, University of the West of England, Bristol. *Centre for Research in Biomedical Sciences ** Centre for Research in Environmental Sciences) show that after contact the bacteria with Anoxx™ solution they came with the conclusions as follows:

Anoxx™ is an effective antimicrobial agent in both aqueous and aerosol forms for Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Bioluminescence suggests that sterilisation via fogging is effective against P.aeruginosa (D-value 25 seconds). It is important to note that Experiment 1 for P.aeruginosa discrepancies between colony forming units and bioluminescence were evident. This suggests that the drop in bioluminescence observed after fogging was caused by a drop in the metabolic rate in addition to a drop in the population. This is important as it may well give a valuable insight into how Anoxx™ annihilates bacteria. Anoxx™ also worked rapidly on S.aureus (D-value 140 seconds), and E.coli (D-value 30seconds). Monitoring the bioluminescence is a viable method for investigating the effect of Anoxx™ upon bacterial populations in real-time comparing well with colony forming units. Anoxx™, has the potential to be used as a clinical biocide for use against resistant strains although further research is needed to fully understand its effectiveness, efficacy and practical implementation.
